Sensitize individuals to lead effectively in the context of the era 2024
The village temple serves as the focal point of the Hela Bodhi tradition, passed down to us by our ancient Helas, who were molded into a robust nation by Buddhist culture. In the past, there existed perfect harmony between the village and the temple. However, due to various factors, the temple has become distant from the village and caters to only a few limited needs. Consequently, Buddhism is often perceived today merely as a religion centered around offerings, leading children and young people to view Buddhism through this narrow lens. This marks a period of decline for Buddhism.
In reality, the virtue promoted by Buddhism encompassed culture and wisdom. It permeated various aspects of life, including agriculture and trade, thereby influencing daily activities extensively.
Pursuing mirages, individuals engage in unnecessary competition, extending from childhood to adulthood. Consequently, human virtues have rapidly deteriorated. This decline is particularly disheartening as individuals, afflicted by various physical ailments, find themselves in economic distress. With poverty escalating in society, instances of lying, theft, and immorality have become ubiquitous
Observing this situation, it becomes evident that many individuals who should contribute to the country are compelled to leave in search of solutions for their own problems. As a responsible government, it is imperative to safeguard the human resources of a nation, yet those in authority seem indifferent to this duty. Regrettably, the status of Adar, as a Sinhala Buddhist, is at an all-time low.
Lacking national and religious leadership, the hope that political leadership alone will address issues remains unfulfilled. Hence, I urge all of you to step forward and collaborate in serving the welfare of the Hela Bodunu people through our local temple.
